Mordecai to Peter to William to Peter Edward

Tracing our roots to Peter Bozeman in the Cheraws District of Darlington South Carolina 1800, who seems to have been the son of Mordicai Boseman......Mordecai Boseman is listed in the South Carolina Archives of USgenweb.com as being in the American Revolution...........................and also Peter Bozeman................ He is found on the 1790 census of Darlington SC....1800, 1810, 1820 but was in Alabama for the 1830 census....................................... Peter was probably born about 1755 in North Carolina; fought in the American Revolution, lived a while in South Carolina; and spent his final years in Montgomery Alabama. His sons were Meady, Peter Edward, Jesse, William and one daughter Lucy..........................Peter had a brother named Ralph who was also in the American Revolution and it may be Ralph who we later find in Florida................................................................................ Peter Edward Bozeman married Nancy Jane Anderson in 1859 and had my mother's great grandfather John Thomas Bozeman in 1866. Jesse had Lacy Bozeman who married Thomas Randolph Carter who was my husband's great great grandfather.....Jesse, Lacy and Carter are buried in Hope Hull AL in what now has become a pasture on private property and basically all headstones ruined by cattle................................................Nancy Jane Anderson's grave was found in a Bozeman Family Plot in Greenwood Cemetery, Montgomery AL...We traced the Anderson line into the Carolinas and up to Edward Doty of the Mayflower...........................................John Thomas Bozeman's daughter Lorena Bozeman married Charles Allen McClain who's family also came from South Carolina and his line was also in the American Revolution.................While we have found the graves of John Thomas and Peter James Bozeman in Dublin, we never found the grave of their father Peter from SC....................Some Bozeman relatives say he is buried nearby in a wooded area that has been sold................that they long ago found broken up headstones in the brush that might have been a small cemetery.............There is a small unmarked headstone by John Thomas Bozeman's and we wonder if it is for their child, little John, but nobody really knows..........actually it could be there for his father.................................................................................................................................. Not much is known about Mordicai Bozeman. Rev. Bozeman mentions Mordicai in Sketches of the Bozeman Family, 1885. "MORDICAI BOZEMAN - 1735. - DARLINGTON CO., SOUTH CAROLINA A native of North Carolina, born about 1735. His sons were: 1. Peter Bozeman, born about 1758; a soldier in the Revolution on the side of American independence. Moved to Alabama. 2. John Bozeman, born about 1760; soldier in the Revolution with his brother. 3. James Bozeman, born about 1766; lived in Darlington county, South Carolina; married Elizabeth Flowers.".............................. We also know that Mordicai served in the American Revolution in SC. ....................... We do not know Mordicai's parents. Based on his birth date of 1735 in North Carolina, he could be a brother of James Bozeman of Edgecombe County. He could also be a brother of Samuel Bozeman. He could also be a brother of Benjamin Bozeman of Southampton County, VA..........................................................................................................................................1837 Land Records of Alabama show a Peter E Bozeman !!!----HOWEVER there were two purchases that day so did Peter buy two farms or were there two different Peters in the same town????---============= PETER E BOZEMAN Land Office: CAHABA Document Number: 28965 Total Acres: 39.875 Signature: Yes Canceled Document: No Issue Date: August 09, 1837 Mineral Rights Reserved: No Metes and Bounds: No Statutory Reference: 3 Stat. 566 Multiple Warantee Names: No Act or Treaty: April 24, 1820 Multiple Patentee Names: No Entry Classification: Sale-Cash Entries Land Description: 1 SENW ST STEPHENS No 13N 18E 34 ========================================================================================================================================================================= Series Number: S108092 Reel: 0011 Frame: 00289 ignore: 00 Date: 1776 C. So many relatives and so little time to study them all.

Kathy's mother was born Annie Lee Carter but changed her name to Anne Alice Carter and married Frankie Lavern Cochran in 1951.

Annie disliked that name and wondered how she got it but liked her mother's name Alice and changed her own.  Annie had no idea that her father's mom was Annie Lee Stone.  Family did not discuss her parents.

Census records show that Annie Lee may have been a nickname and her legal name could have been Anna Lou Stone. Grandma Stone could have been fullblood Cherokee and the research continues.  Anna may connect to the Michell Stone from Maryland in the 1700s but then who were his ancestors.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Annie Lee Carter was briefly married to a Donald Robinson before she met Frank Cochran so you may see a Mrs Robinson written in her grandfather's funeral memorial book.
Frank learned that his former girlfriend in Kansas had a son
named Frank Jr.
Frankie and Anne lost two sons before Kathy was born.  Frank left the Air Force in Oct 1952 and Kathy was born in Sept 1953, Broken Arrow, Tulsa, Oklahoma.
It is unknown how long they stayed in OK but spent some time with family in Kansas and back to Montgomery Alabama because we find a letter Frank wrote to his darling wife and child in 1955 saying that he was traveling looking for work and sending them money.  In 1956 they are in Arizona where two sons are born and back to Alabama in 1959 for Kathy to start school.  Their youngest daughter born in 1961.
Kathy graduated in 1971 from Robert E Lee and married in 1972 to Charles Brooks.  This family tree study finds a few last names quite common in both lines.
Kathy's parents were both mixed Cherokee and Kathy could be  at least one quarter Indian Blood.  Her husband could be a smaller amount which is yet to be studied.
Kathy's mother, Anne Carter's parents were Cecil Earl Fenn Carter and Emma Alice McClain;  which brings us to study many other names in their history like Fenn, Stone, Harrell, Rich, Bozeman, Stephens, Anderson, Brack, Doty, Sellers, Mills, a line that came down thru Virginia, and the Carolinas to Alabama.
Kathy's father, Frank Cochran's parents were Frank Delbert Cochran and Luella Ellen Coonfield;  which brings us to study Parker, Miller, Young, Little, Crigler, Roby, Carpenter, Barber, Crawford, Wright, Weatherford, Tefft, Sweet from Rhode Island, New York Indian Territory, into PA and Ohio and into the midwest.
Census records often had nicknames on them or simply an initial so it is a long process to organize our family tree accurately.  Some of my webpages will have those census records while some have photos of the person.
Census takers may not have been very educated with math and often the ages are wrong plus they wrote down "what they thought they heard" as a name.  They wrote down the race as black or white, never tan, red or indian.
One thing that cannot be denied in our history is that the colonists
were cold, hungry, and lonely in this new land and they intermarried with the Indians.  We may not know how much indian blood we carry nor which tribe we belong to, but we do know
who we really are.
